The Water Palace

The Water Palace, Croydon

When completed it was the largest indoor leisure pool in the UK. Constructed for the London Borough of Croydon it included four internal water slides, wave machine, lazy river, Jacuzzi, whirlpools and extensive catering and relaxation areas.

A main feature of the building was the space frame roof structure which produced extremely large column free areas whilst maintaining a light feel to the structure.

Spelthorne Leisure Centre

Spelthorne Leisure Centre, Staines, Middlesex

This project for Spellthone Borough Council comprised the refurbishment and leisurisation of an existing 1960’s swimming pool,, and the construction of a new extension to house dry sports facilities, including badminton, squash, aerobics, fitness centre, reception and café bar.

The extension doubled the size of the centre and a main feature of the project was the formation of a central mall and entrance separating the dry and wet activities.

The project was procured by a competitive design and build tender with the Sunley Projects team submitting he winning scheme.

33-120 Pall Mall

33–120 Pall Mall, London

The refurbishment of this important listed building designed by Edwin Lutyens was carried out for Trafalgar House Properties. The project included major structural modification and the addition of an extra floor.

To create an atrium, large opening were formed in the ground and first floors, introducing light into the basement.

A major challenge arose from a tenant in one of the upper floors remaining in occupation throughout the project. This created major planning and buildability issues for the design team and contractor, which where all successfully overcome.

No. 1 City Square

No. 1 City Square, Leeds

This prestigious new office development on a landmark site in Leeds City Centre was constructed for client, Norwich Union by Principal contractor Shepherd Construction (UK).

The building is a high quality, 12 storey atrium office with a 9m by 20m atrium extending from ground floor to the fabric roof above the buildings top floor.

River and Rowing Museum

River and Rowing Museum, Henley on Thames

This highly acclaimed building was constructed for the River and Rowing Museum Foundation by main contractor Norwest Holst Construction Ltd. The imaginative design and picturesque riverside setting have produced a Museum of high quality.

The building has won several Architectural and design awards including the Civic Trust, R.I.B.A., American Institute of Architecture and was voted museum of the year in its time.

Vaughan Library

Vaughan Library, Harrow

The Vaughan Library is a grade 2 listed building. This was a £2 million refurbishment contract for Harrow School, at Harrow on the Hill.

The Library building demanded several challenging details for elements that had to be retained and/or reproduced to meet the Architectural and Planning requirements. Several elegant steel stairs, balconies and mezzanine floors were introduced to create space and essential links to various parts of the building, the most challenging being the cantilevered balcony illustrated.

17 Culross Street

Demolition of existing Mews Building and reconstruction to form modern accommodation on four levels. The design included a central spiral staircase formed from insitu concrete incorporating cantilever treads.
