This £7.5m leisure centre will consist of a 25m swimming pool, learner pool, four court sports hall, fitness suite, dance studio and dry and wet changing facilities.
The structure is a combination of concrete and timber frame supported on mass concrete foundations. The tank and basement structures have been designed to resist uplift due to the high water table. The timber structure comprises straight and curved glulam beams, glulam columns and cross laminated timber panels for the roof deck and shear walls.
The primary boiler for the centre will be a biomass boiler fuelled by woodchips.
The project is currently under construction and is due to be completed in October 2011.
