Dunraven School

The new sports hall for Dunraven School pushes forward the traditional construction boundaries. The building is based on a unique, affordable and sustainable method of construction. Using sea containers to create the building’s envelope. The design provides “so much more than a boring shed”.
To reduce site time and spoil created from traditional foundation types such as trench footings or traditional piling, screw piling was used. This allowed a quick and easy installation for the building support. The main U shaped container layout was prefabricated off site and installed on site in 3 days. So minimising disruption to the school. The roof is enclosed with long span lightweight steel roof trusses spanning from container to container. With long span purlins supporting the roof cladding.
The building recently featured in a documentary about sustainable construction for the BBC’s ‘Inside Out’ programme and has appeared on numerous news bulletins in the UK and France.
