Employment & Equal Opportunities

Furness Partnership is an equal opportunities employer. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of modern Britain. We welcome applications from suitably qualified individuals, irrespective of gender, marital status, disability, age, race, colour, nationality or sexual orientation. Our employment and recruitment practices support this principle, taking action where necessary, to enable all current and potential members of the firm to maximise their opportunities. All staff members are expected to comply with this, and any harassment and victimisation will be challenged. We are proud to be able to assure our staff of a fair working atmosphere.

Sustainability and Environmental Management Systems

Furness Partnership strongly believes that as structural and civil engineers we have an important role in the construction industry. We make a significant commitment to our sustainability policy, both in respect of our office activities and through our professional role as consultant engineers. We have established an Environmental Management Strategy which is based upon the principles and requirements of BS8555.

We feel that we have an obligation to strive for an improved environment and endeavour to do this in keeping with client expectations. Through our ongoing consideration for sustainability and environmental factors we deliver projects which are recognised and awarded for their low environmental impact.

To raise standards of environmental awareness we work closely with clients, suppliers, contractors, other professional bodies, and the local community. We specify materials of low embodied energy and minimise environmental degradation. We use sustainable sourced timber and minimise waste through efficient and considered design. Whenever possible we specify reused or recycled materials or constituent parts, and make reference to the National Green Specification to select materials which provide the required specification, value and reduced environmental impact.

In addition to our project work we aim to use resources efficiently and minimise waste, water, energy and other consumables in our own office environment. We recycle our waste paper and put our efforts into finding sustainable sources for all our consumables such that they are from environmentally responsible fairly traded sources. Furness Partnership staff are aware of their obligations to comply with the practice Environmental Management Strategy and the performance of the practice is measured against its goals.
