This new leisure pool, constructed for client The Rank Organisation at its Butlins holiday centre in Bognor Regis, was the first pool designed by Furness Partnership. The principal structural feature is the complex glulam timber roof. Designed in conjunction with leisure architects S&P, the three central columns create tree–like suppors to the roof.

To achieve the tight 22 week winter construction programme, an innovative solution using a flat piled basement structure was adopted. This removed the time consuming pool tank construction from the critical path enabling earlier completion of the building envelope.

The pool slab is supported on sleeper walls providing an undercroft for the service pipework to the water features.
